hmmm.. American biscuits and gravy doesn't look like that. American biscuits and gravy is a dense/thick breakfast food and the gravy is much more white in color with nice chunks of Jimmy Dean sausage (the type is ground sausage that comes in rolls.) To properly execute this dish, you fry the ground sausage directly from the roll into a frying pan and you add 1/4 cup white flour after the grease from the sausage begins to make some grease in the pan and you fry the flour and sausage together until it is a rue. Then you begin to add cow milk little at a time stirring a lot until it becomes desired thickness. Salt and pepper are the only seasoning.

I just looked up jalebi and indeed it's pretty much made the same way, just that jalebi is poured in a neater pattern. Also, the batter recipe may be different. From Wikipedia: "It has been suggested that the American funnel cake is derived from the Arab and Persian cuisine, brought by German emigrants and called Drechterkuche.[3] The history of the invention and subsequent spread of this food thus remains open to interpretation and unresolved."

I love getting them at a flea market or a fair. Powder sugar and some cinnamon plus a good cup of coffee.

The batter is put into a funnel & poured out through the tip into hot oil to fry. Poured out in a swirl. Found at carnivals, amusementparks & fairs. Topped with confectioners sugar & sometimes strawberries & whipped cream.

One of my favorite desserts! They're made a lot at carnivals, the fair grounds, amusement parks, and the drive in movie theaters, etc but they're easy to make at home too. I like mine with the powdered sugar, chocolate syrup and strawberries!! :)

Oh, yes! With fresh strawberries as well! There are ways of making small batches at home, but it would require the availability of ice. it is a simple recipe but absolutely requires cold. I'm so glad you got to enjoy it! As others have mentioned, my grandparents used the snow outside. Cream, sugar, vanilla (or fruit!) My favorite is pistachio or butter pecan.
